Parents let their 8-year-old daughter get excluded in class because the 3rd grader forgot to ask them to buy craft supplies, mom gets roasted: 'She's a child'

Punishing a child as if they missed their Q4 KPI's is wild…

…But these parents expected adult-like behavior from their 8-year-old. Do you remember being that age? All that mattered in the world was your best friend's new jelly sandals, the stuffed animal you slept with, and who could swing the highest on the swings at recess. No kid that age has the foresight to plan months in advance, let alone the wherewithal to understand what it means to run errands at Hobby Lobby over the holiday break. 

Kids that age just want to play tag, hang out with their friends, and do crafts at school, but this mom was irate enough to take that privilege away. Before the holiday break, the children in this 8-year-old's class were given a laundry list of crafting supplies to bring in during their first week back at school in 2026. However, the little girl's 3rd-grade mind was distracted by Christmas elves, building snowmen, and her Granny's famous hot cocoa. Naturally, the craft list slipped, and she completely forgot until the day of the project. Panicked, she asked her mom to buy the supplies the morning before school, but instead of helping her forgetful daughter out, this mom decided to teach her a lesson. 

It's true, actions have consequences, but when you're dealing with the wholesome forgetfulness of an 8-year-old, perhaps show some mercy. I'm 31 years old, and if you asked me to recall a list of 'To-Do's' from before the Christmas holiday, I'd come up with a blank memory too. Perhaps, I'm something of a 3rd grader myself, but in life, we all make mistakes, and for a kid who just wants to be a part of the school day crafts, a shred of grace goes a long way.

  • NaniRomanoff I do think 8 is a bit young to not be checking your child's bag for important information from her teacher. Like she's a child. They're literally brand new to the planet with very little understanding of the passage of time or the logistics involved in making things happen. And I do think it's a bit unfair for you to effectively punish her for a predictable age appropriate mistake when if you'd been checking up on your child's schoolwork appropriately you would have already known ab

  • FarlerFive YTA She's a child. She is 8 years old! This is your job as a parent. I hate that people expect kids to be what they are not. I still forget things. It's life. Don't expect more from a child than you are capable of. I am sure that you forget things. At that age, I asked my children if they had paperwork for me & checked their backpacks. No way a flyer from before the holidays would not have been seen.
